Things to know before building a houseMarch 25, 2020
Planning a custom designed home can be incredibly challenging. Sure, you have a good idea of the must-have features for the house, but what about the more practical considerations? For instance, have you given much thought to how natural light will enter through the windows? Have you considered ventilation? What about laundry room positioning? These are just a few examples of things that many people overlook during the design phase that can ultimately lead to a less than ideal home once it’s constructed. Follow these nine tips from Truoba House Plans to avoid issues and design a home that you’ll love for years to come.
Usability is a significant issue when it comes to home design. As we mentioned above, this touches on everything from ventilation to the location of things like your laundry room. Too often, homes follow a cookie-cutter design that puts the laundry room next to the garage, which is next to the kitchen. However, that might not be the best option when it comes to your home’s layout.
How do you tell what layout you should follow? Think about your family’s use of the various rooms and your lifestyle. Answer these questions:
- How often do you do laundry?
- Would it be more convenient to have the laundry room adjacent to the bedrooms?
- Would you prefer to walk into the kitchen from the garage, or into another room? For instance, would a mudroom be a better option?
- Do you spend a lot of time in the family room, but want to maximize your outdoor space too? Maybe positioning the family room at the back of the house with easy access to a patio and the backyard is a good idea.
These are just a few examples of how the layout of a home can vary from family to family. Remember – this is your dream home. It should reflect your family’s usage of the space and your lifestyle.
